Level 3 Beauty students at North Nottinghamshire College’s Insync Hair and Beauty Salon in Retford, held their third annual charity event raising £230 for Bluebell Wood Hospice. As part of their qualification the students had to plan, organise and evaluate an event and the students chose to raise money for the hospice. The students organised mini beauty treatments, sold cup cakes, held raffles and sold Bluebell Wood merchanise on the day to raise this staggering amount.
Kate Taylor, Lecturer at Retford, said; “The students worked really hard to organise this event and we are delighted with the amount raised for such a worthy cause. We would like to thank everyone who was involved and supported the students on the day”.

Pictured are six smartly dressed students ready for an interview for a work placement position in the College’s Library recently. The Learning Development students who formally applied for the position were interviewed by Richard Watts and Lynda Rose.
Linda Rose, Learning Resources Co-ordinator, commented; “All the students did really well in the interview and impressed us both with their interaction and communication skills. It was a very hard decision to choose one individual from the group, so we decided in the end to give all an opportunity to gain work experience in the LRC, which will commence after Easter until the end of term.”

The mentors along with Bassetlaw PCT have been holding smoking cessation clinics in the Getaway recently, where a member of the health promotion team is on hand with resources, information, advice and quit packs to assist you in giving up smoking.
The next clinic will be held on May 1st and May 15th between 12.00 and 1.30.
All learners and staff are invited to attend.

Beauty therapy students have worked together to plan numerous charity events during March. Level 1 students raised £62.00 for help the hero’s by performing mini treatments baking buns and making tea and coffee. Level 2 students organised the NSPCC Charity day and raised £124.50 and £228.00 was raised for teenage cancer by carrying out pamper day treatments, baking buns, serving refreshments and organising a raffle.
“The students have really worked hard over the last couple of weeks organising these events, and I am so pleased it has paid off, they should be proud of what they have achieved.” said Amanda Wood, Lecturer. “A big thank you to all the staff, students and the public who supported these events.”

The final themed event “Achieve Economic Well Being” took place early in March, at North Nottinghamshire College, linking with Barclays Money Skills. In excess of 900 students engaged with tutorials and activities held in the National Fluid Power Centre, the Learning Resource Centre, the Bistro and the sudent’s Getaway.
The key focus of the events was Barclays Money Skills with over 100 learners engaged with the money quiz on Blackboard and ‘Top Tips’ competition. Foundation learners challenged around 600 learners to identify the tastiest of 2 products against a taste and price comparison for branded and non-branded products.
The following tips have been entered into the Barclay’s prize draw of an iPad 2 and each received a £10 Amazon voucher from college.
