Advice & Guidance

If you’re not sure what you want to do and would like to talk to someone, come in and talk to us. We have qualified guidance staff who can offer you free information, advice and guidance on training, learning and work.

They can help you to:

  • Identify opportunities that might be open to you
  • Understand more about yourself and what you might enjoy doing
  • Overcome any concerns or problems you may have
  • Make a plan of what you can do to reach your goal

Student Services staff can also help you in all sorts of ways. They can give you information about:

  • All the different College courses on offer
  • Progression on to the next level of a course
  • Careers
  • Support for applications to University and Employment
  • All aspects of job search
  • Grants and other financial assistance
  • Studying whilst on benefits
  • Financial help with the costs of your course including travel and childcare

They can also arrange additional support to ensure you can access your course:

  • Specialist support for people with disabilities
  • Sensory support including specialist tutors for the deaf or hard of hearing and visually impaired
  • Braille handouts and resources
  • Specialist support for people with specific learning disabilities, dyslexia or dyspraxia including specialist assessment, one to one teaching support, scribes and personal support
  • Support for people with learning disabilities through our learning support programme or on vocational courses
  • Language support for students who do not speak English as their first language
  • Personal support and counselling
  • Mobility support and medical support
  • Specialist equipment and resources
  • Access and transport between sites

LEAP AHEAD

‘Leap Ahead’, the Lifelong Learning Network (LLN) for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The newly established, Leap Ahead is a consortium of the University of Derby who are the hosts, together with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, the Open University and the eight FE colleges in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, North Nottinghamshire College being one of these.

Aim Higher

Aimhigher Nottinghamshire is part of a national initiative tasked with raising the aspirations and attainment of young people and encouraging their progression to higher education. Aimhigher is a key component of government policy to widen and so increase participation.

What is Higher Futures?

Higher Futures is the Lifelong Learning Network for the sub-region and its travel-to-study area, encompassing South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire
