Putting students through their paces
Last week North Notts College Public Services students welcomed, for the first time, representatives from the Royal Marine Commandos.
Corporal Joe, Marine Ant and Marine Ben have been assigned to work in careers liaison as part of their duties and every 12 weeks they will be in the East Midlands area, a change from their normal base of Exeter.
The students were given a presentation of the life as a marine including a review of the specialist trades available within this career; they were also shown footage filmed by soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
At this point in the presentation you could have heard a pin drop – the students were engrossed and eager for more, so much so that some are now rethinking their career choices.
After a break students were put through their fitness paces in true marine style. “ I have never seen so many red, and in some cases ashen faces; although I am lead to believe that they enjoyed the workout “. Said Debbie Hibbard one of the tutors on the course.

The video was produced by the College’s Media students.
