Vehicle Fitting Principles (IMI Diploma Level 2)

Course Overview

This qualification is aimed for candidates wanting to gain expertise and qualifications relevant to the motor vehicle industry. Candidates will be able to gain a greater understanding of relevant techniques including inspection and fitting processes. Core units include health and safety, and workplace practice. Option units will extend your knowledge and your practical skills ans will include inspecting and replacing clutches, braking systems and components. This course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 Motor Vehicle qualification and achieved at least Level 1 Key/Functional skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

All applicants undertake initial diagnostic tests and a personal interview before being accepted on the course.

Course Contents

To achieve this qualification candidates need to complete all the mandatory units and some of the optional units.

  • Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment
  • Skills in Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment

  • Skills to Identify and Agree Motor Vehicle Customer Service Needs
  • Skills in Inspection, Repair and Replacement of High Performance Light Vehicle Tyre
  • Skills in Inspection Repair and Replacement of Commercial Vehicle Tyres
  • Skills in Inspection, Repair and Replacement of Motorcycle Tyres
  • Skills in Assessing and Securing the Roadside Situation
  • Skills in Inspection and Repair of Light Vehicle Clutches

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed by practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment and through multiple-choice testing and written assessments.

Progression Route

  • Employment in the motor vehicle industry, for instance with a vehicle fitting company or garage.
  • An Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme which combines employment with continuing study at college.

INVITED FOR AN INTERVIEW

You will be invited to attend College for a pre-course interview, which will include a guided tour of College and its grounds, assessment tests in literacy, numeracy and learning styles and an interview with a course tutor from your chosen subject area.

4th Step

CONFIRMATION

Subject to a successful pre-course interview you will be offered a place on a course suitable for your abilities in the area of your choice. Sometimes these are subject to conditions such as exam grades.
