Fabrication & Welding - Performing Engineering Operations (EMTA NVQ Diploma Level 2)

Course Overview

If you like practical work or you are thinking of a career in fabrication and welding this course could be for you. You will learn about the basic principles of working in an engineering environment, by studying core units in engineering techniques and engineering principles. you will also study a range of option units including; producing components from sheet metal, welding principles and CAD. This course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at A-E including Maths and English at D grade or a Level 1 engineering qualification.

All applicants undertake initial diagnostic tests and a personal interview before being accepted on the course.

Course Contents

To achieve this qualification candidates must complete all the mandatory units and three optional units.

  • Engineering environment awareness
  • Engineering techniques
  • Engineering principles

Optional units

  • Fabrication and welding principles
  • Manual welding techniques
  • Producing components from metal plate
  • Producing components from sheet metal
  • Non-fusion thermal joining methods
  • Thermal cutting techniques
  • Understanding Computer Aided Drawing (CAD)

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed by practical assessments in the workshop.

Progression Route

Employment in a fabrication and welding settings.

Further study at higher levels within the engineering curriculum.

Alternatively candidates may consider an Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme which combines employment with continuing study at college.

INVITED FOR AN INTERVIEW

You will be invited to attend College for a pre-course interview, which will include a guided tour of College and its grounds, assessment tests in literacy, numeracy and learning styles and an interview with a course tutor from your chosen subject area.

4th Step

CONFIRMATION

Subject to a successful pre-course interview you will be offered a place on a course suitable for your abilities in the area of your choice. Sometimes these are subject to conditions such as exam grades.
