This qualification from the technical certificate for the apprenticeship framework. It is a work-based automotive qualification that assesses the competence and knowledge that vehicle fitters require to perform their job role effectively. These technicians will work on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

The qualification is designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. The course also provides the knowledge requirements for its related qualification and forms the knowledge component of the IMI SSC maintenance and repair apprenticeship framework (for light vehicle).
There are no formal entry requirements, but applicants must be capable of working at level 2 diploma.
All applicants undertake initial diagnostic tests and a personal interview before being accepted on the course.

The qualification is an integral part of IMI SSC maintenance and repair apprenticeship framework (light vehicle route). Therefore candidates (normally aged 16-25) who are keen to build a career in the industry can take this qualification as part of the apprenticeship framework.
When the level 2 apprenticeship is completed, an apprentice can progress to a level 3 advanced apprenticeship, or broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base.
This qualification can provide recognition of professional competence to aid candidates to step up from 1 job role to another, e.g. into supervisory and/or management roles or more responsible positions in engineering.

INVITED FOR AN INTERVIEW
You will be invited to attend College for a pre-course interview, which will include a guided tour of College and its grounds, assessment tests in literacy, numeracy and learning styles and an interview with a course tutor from your chosen subject area.
CONFIRMATION
Subject to a successful pre-course interview you will be offered a place on a course suitable for your abilities in the area of your choice. Sometimes these are subject to conditions such as exam grades.
