Well done on another excellent performance from students in Learning Development who took part in the recent Sewhat fashion event. Their outfits were inspired by “The Elements” and represented earth, air, fire and water. They used recycled clothing from charity shops and donations which they adapted by cutting out panels and appliquéing onto. To complete each outfit, learners developed skills in jewellery making using traditional techniques and a combination of gardening twine, wire, beads from old necklaces, stones from the garden and wood from local trees, sculpted into rings, necklaces, armlets and hair fascinators.
The final catwalk routine was developed over two mornings working with Jay Pollitt, a choreographer and dance specialist, using music from “The Last Airbender”. Luckily, everyone was focused on the night and the performance went off without a hitch! An excellent finish to all the months of hard work from the Entry 2 and 3 Craft Design and Technology Diploma students and the eight learners performing on the night!
Will we do it again next year? Yes, definitely, we just have to think of another theme for our eight Sewhat performance; answers on a postcard please!
Lastly, the students would like to say a big thank you to all the staff that helped on the night (and the caretakers for staying late!) and to Darren and the Media students for videoing it all of us and we hope the DVD will be available to purchase soon.
