Following the success of last year’s recruitment event, Explore Manufacturing invited students from local North Notts College to attend another open day.
Over sixty students were given the opportunity to learn about the company, before heading off to take a tour of the factory, giving them a better idea of what a typical day’s work would look like.
Stephen Forbes, general manager talks about the success of the scheme: “The manufacturing trainee position was created last year, when five trainees joined Laing O’Rourke. The programme has turned out to be a huge success, with the enthusiasm and commitment of the trainees evident on a daily basis. Enrolling young people at the beginning of their career enables us to nurture them, helping them to continuously develop the skills and experience needed to equip them for the future.”
Impressed by the importance Laing O’Rourke places on attracting and investing in young people, Kath Thorpe, programme manager for engineering at the college said: “This has been another fantastic event, giving the students an insight into the range of opportunities available to them and on their doorstep.”
