A North Notts College student took first place in a fantasy-themed Media Make-up  competition with a stunning mermaid creation.

Ten Hair and Media Make-up students from local colleges took part in the East Midlands sub-regional World Skills competition based on a ‘Fantasy’ theme which was hosted at the Retford Post 16 Centre.

Students were given a brief and judged on criteria such as creative ideas, hair styling, technique, dramatic impact and the overall effect of the finished make-up.

The top candidates achieving the highest marks in the heats were to be invited to the UK finals later in the year.

Winning student, Stacey from North Notts College, commented: “I’ve really enjoyed the competition and didn’t feel too much under pressure with being assessed as I have had previous experience of it. I also learnt new skills coming into the competition by making my own latex pieces so I am really pleased with the result and to come first was just the icing on the cake.”
