This qualification is for learners aged pre-16 and above and is suitable for those looking for a level 2 qualification.
It will give learners the introductory skills to either start a career in sports or progress within employment in the sector. This qualification can also prepare learners for higher or further education, give a good introduction to the sports industry, and provide a hands-on approach through our Work Experience Programme.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Sport (Working in Sport), learners are required to successfully complete three mandatory units and one optional unit.
Three mandatory units:
Participating in Sport (M/505/9936)
Understanding Business in Sport (H/505/9948)
Preparing to Work in the Sport and Leisure Industry (Y/505/9977)
With optional units.

Our experienced tutors, who have played and coached in sports at a regional, national, and international level, will push you, teach you how to motivate others, and help you build a career in the sport and leisure industries. You’ll gain leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that are important for a career in the fitness industry. We have excellent links with local businesses in the industry, and you will have the opportunity to undertake placements and gain work experience with a variety of employers. This will help you gain an understanding of what it’s like to work in the fitness industry and learn from those doing the job you want. You’ll also have the chance to gain additional qualifications as part of your course in subjects including anti-doping, personal training, and more.
- We recommend you have four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, one being in English or Maths, to be best suited for this programme.

A progressive course, at Level 3
- 16-18 year olds do not need to pay course fees
- Those aged 19 or over may not need to pay fees depending on their circumstances. Find out if you qualify here.
Sports kit will be required. However, bursary/financial support is available for those eligible. Please refer to the RNN Group Bursary Policy for further details.
