Celebrating World Book Day

03 May 2017

To celebrate ‘World Book Day’ library staff across all sites held a ‘Shelfie’ competition and asked students to create a short story/poem using a selection of book titles from the library shelves. They just needed to take a photo of the stack when completed and send it in.

“It was a very infectious competition once you started it; said Lynda Rose, Learning Resources Co-ordinator, “All the library staff had a go to create examples and it became addictive, Jade, our apprentice, managed to do two.  It was great fun.”

World Book Day took place on Thursday 2nd March and has been celebrated for more than 20 years. The aim of World Book Day is to celebrate books and reading and is marked in a total of 100 countries around the world.

Three winners were chosen, Simona Valean who is studying on an ESOL course won first place, Beth Emsen and Mariah Blackham came second and third respectively both taking a Land-based studies course.  The students were photographed with their prizes and certificates.
