North Notts College Students Support Worksop Pride 2018

21 June 2018

Staff and students of North Notts College are excited to support Worksop Pride 2018. The annual event will be taking place at Old Market Square in Worksop on Saturday 7th July.

Staff and students will be meeting at the Worksop train station at 11am to join the North Notts Diversity Parade starting at 11.30am, before watching the main acts taking place throughout the afternoon and visiting the variety of stalls.

Worksop Pride was founded in 2016 by Crystal Lucas. Pride events are traditionally held in celebration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community but in recent years have become celebrations of unity for everyone, without regard to their sexuality, race, religion, or background. Pride takes place to thank everyone in the history of gay rights for their personal sacrifices and their fight that has brought us to where we are today and Worksop Pride is a celebration of this.

Tracey Benstead, North Notts College Student and Student Union Equality Officer, said “pride is important because we can be who we are and don’t have to hide it any more like I had to when I first came out to my family who couldn’t accept me for me. They said it was a phase I was going through and that was 34 years ago, so now I show how proud I am by attending Pride where I can.

It is a time for lots of people to be proud of who they are.”

To take part in Worksop Pride with other staff and students from North Notts College, please contact Beth or Debra on 01909 504589. For more information about the event visit www.worksoppride.co.uk.
