Early Years and Education – Ellie
T Level: Early Years Educator
Ever since a young age, Ellie has been passionate about early childhood development, which inspired her to choose the T Level: Early Years Educator.
Combining classroom learning with practical experience gained through placements at two local schools has equipped her with essential skills. With support from teamwork and college staff, she has grown in confidence and gained valuable insights throughout her journey.
Why did you choose to study this course?
“Teaching has been a passion of mine since I was little. I’ve always wanted to support children through their early development, and this course stood out to me because it offers a perfect mix of academic learning and hands-on experience.
That balance allows me to build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, which I know will be crucial for my future career in education.”
Ellie Bailey“Support from College has been incredible. Tutors are approachable and always ready to offer advice, both academically and professionally.”
Which skills have you developed during the course?
“Throughout my course, I’ve developed a wide range of essential skills. Communication and teamwork have improved greatly, along with my ability to manage time effectively. I’ve gained experience in planning engaging activities that support children’s development.
Understanding safeguarding and how to create inclusive, supportive environments where children feel valued has also been a key part of my learning.”
How has the College supported you?
“Support from College has been incredible. Tutors are approachable and always ready to offer advice, both academically and professionally. I’ve also received financial support with travel and meals, which has made a big difference and allowed me to concentrate fully on my studies.
The College has also organised group visits to universities, giving us the chance to explore future study options and listen to guest speakers as part of our professional development.”
What have you enjoyed most about the course?
“Placement has been the most rewarding part for me. Being in a real-life setting and building relationships with children has confirmed that I’m on the right path. It’s amazing to see the difference my support can make.
I’ve also enjoyed the team-building activities in college, as they’ve helped us connect as future practitioners and support one another.”
Have you been involved in any placements or trips?
“I’ve completed two fantastic placements – one at Langold School and another at Sparken Hill Academy. Both boosted my confidence and gave me a clear insight into the daily life of an early years practitioner. At Langold, I even worked alongside a teacher who taught me in Foundation Stage, which felt like a full-circle moment.
Outside of placement, I took part in a bushcraft experience at Blyth, where we developed resilience, leadership and teamwork – all while having fun outdoors.”

Do you have any advice for future students?
“Make the most of everything the course has to offer, both in the classroom and on placement. Ask questions, get involved, and don’t be afraid to learn from your mistakes.
Everyone here wants you to succeed, and the more you engage, the more you’ll get out of the experience.”
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“In five years, I hope to have finished university and be working as a qualified early years teacher. I’d love to specialise in the early stages of child development, where I can really inspire and support young children.
This course has given me a solid foundation, and I’m excited to keep moving forward in a career I’ve been passionate about for as long as I can remember.”
