Our courses, delivered at Retford Education Centre, are suitable for all abilities. 

You will learn in our top-quality fitness suite and sports hall and make use of state-of-the-art equipment as you gain experience in sports coaching, entrepreneurship, personal training, and nutrition.

Our experienced tutors, who have played and coached in sports at a regional, national, and international level, will push you, teach you how to motivate others, and help you build a career in the sport and leisure industries.

You’ll gain leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that are important for a career in the fitness industry.

We have excellent links with local businesses in the industry, and you will have the opportunity to undertake placements and gain work experience with a variety of employers. This will help you gain an understanding of what it’s like to work in the fitness industry and learn from those doing the job you want. You’ll also have the chance to gain additional qualifications as part of your course in subjects including Anti-Doping, Personal Training and more.

Sports Development Officer

Average salary - £24,000**

Sports Development Officers organise projects and training to encourage people to take part in sport and have a healthier lifestyle.

Day to day tasks:

Find and train staff, coaches and volunteers for projects, promote and run projects and activities, monitor and evaluate projects, find funding, manage resources and budgets, put local and national policies into practice, attend meetings, seminars and conferences and coach or supervise sports activities.**

Working environments:

You could work in an office, at a school, on a sports field, at a fitness centre or at a college.

Fitness Instructor

Average salary - £19,500**

Fitness Instructors organise exercise programmes to improve people's health and fitness.

Day to day tasks:

Assess people’s fitness and create personal exercise plans, demonstrate activities, exercise machines and weights, help people exercise safely, lead group exercise classes, give advice
on healthy eating and lifestyle, update client records, follow health and safety guidelines and maintain equipment and market your classes to gain new clients.**

Working environments:

In the community, at a school, at a health centre or in a park.
