Level 2 Gym Instructor

Driven by a lifelong love of fitness, Katie enrolled on the part-time Level 2 Gym Instructor Adult Course, gaining confidence, discovering new strengths, and connecting with supportive peers. Building on her experience running Flexibility Flow Classes, she embraced the challenge, developed her skills, and clarified the future she wants to create.

Developing public speaking, quick thinking, and practical instruction skills, Katie thrived with tailored guidance and encouragement from staff. Looking ahead, she feels prepared to pursue higher qualifications while teaching, coaching, and inspiring others in fitness.

Why did you choose to study your course?

“I chose to study the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course for a wide number of reasons. I had heard about the course before and always wanted to join, but somehow I never had time or was busy doing other things! I finally decided that I owed it to myself to gain this qualification, so I signed up. The process was really quick and easy.”

“The main reason I chose to study this course is that I have always loved sports and fitness. I started gymnastics at the age of five and have always participated in some kind of sports ever since. Some examples include swimming, hockey, Pilates, dance, and yoga. I feel that this course is a great stepping stone to learn and progress onto other sports goals and activities, such as instructing and coaching opportunities.”

“Another reason I chose to study this course is that I have recently started my own business offering Flexibility Flow Classes, and this course will help me expand the range of classes I offer. I also wanted to meet like-minded people who are interested in sports and fitness.”

Which key skills have you developed during your course?

“During the course so far, I feel that I have already developed many useful skills that can be helpful not just for sports-related activities, but for everyday life too.”

“One skill I have developed is public speaking. In class, we have to present to each other in groups and demonstrate exercises while explaining the anatomy behind the moves. At first, it was quite daunting to stand in front of a group and talk, but it has become more like second nature now.”

“Another skill I have developed is brainstorming or ‘thinking on your feet’. The staff teaching the course are amazing at helping develop this skill through quick fire questions to test information retention and group exercises to share ideas. I believe this is a really useful skill and crucial to progress in the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course.”

“I was so anxious about not being good enough or not knowing enough to keep up with others, but the amount of support you get is amazing. Everyone is welcoming, and you can tell the staff genuinely want you to succeed.”

How has the College supported you so far?

“I would encourage everyone interested to join this course, as the staff are amazing at supporting not only physical activities, such as spotting you while you lift weights in the gym, but also the academic and theory side of the course.”

“For example, I am dyslexic, so sometimes it can be difficult to process or read information. My instructor recognised this and helped make reasonable adjustments to support my learning, such as taking a quick picture of the board before changing slides so I can keep up with taking notes.”

“From simple queries to more complicated situations, I can confidently say that the staff on this course will be there to support you.”

What part of the course have you enjoyed the most?

“I have really enjoyed the course as a whole because there are so many interesting aspects. However, if I had to pick one part, it would be the practical side of the course.”

“I enjoy the practical side the most because it gives you the opportunity to use a great range of equipment and develop your own fitness and strength while learning how to keep clients and yourself safe.”

Can you share any challenges you have overcome?

“I feel that when I joined this course, I overcame a challenge right from the beginning. I was so anxious about not being good enough or not knowing enough to keep up with others, but the amount of support you get is amazing. Everyone is welcoming, and you can tell the staff genuinely want you to succeed. I overcame my anxiety, enrolled on the course, and I am so glad I did!”

“Other challenges for me have been more linked with the theory side, but again, the staff and even other learners on the course are always willing to help.”

Do you have any advice for future students?

“Yes, please take my advice and do not worry! This course has so many positive points, and I would highly recommend it. Remember, you are capable of whatever you put your mind to!”

Where do you see yourself in five years?

“In five years, I can see myself still working as part of the Personal Development Team and also teaching sports and fitness classes. I hope to have passed my Level 3 certification in Gym Training and possibly gained other qualifications too.”
