This qualification prepares adults, without traditional qualifications, with the knowledge, skills and behaviours for higher-level study at university.
It is a fast-track pathway condensed into 1 year of study providing you with a holistic overview of the key subjects within health and science.
It is ideal for you if you are interested in the science behind health and want to make a positive difference to people and their local communities and will enable you to study a wide variety of academic and professional undergraduate degree programmes.
Due to the fast-track nature, it is intense and we expect that you will also work independently, in your free time, to research, revise and complete assignments.
You will study;
- anatomy and physiology in health and illness
- psychology and mental health
- health and social policy
- professional practice and study skills
- Dearne Valley College is the hub for higher skills in health and social care, we have a health suite that consists of a simulated ward, in which students are able to have hands-on practice of their newly developed skills, as well as a lab and clean and modern classrooms for theory studies. These facilities will enable you to aim high with your education and get practical experience in a learning environment.

Prior to starting the programme, applicants need to evidence the following academic entry criteria:
- GCSE English at Grade C (4) and above (or equivalent),
- GCSE Maths at Grade C (4) and above (or equivalent).
- Recognised equivalents include Functional Skills Level 2 and Key Skills Level 2, IETLS or a UK ENIC Verified qualification. We may accept GCSE Maths at Grade D (3) if the universities and courses that you’re wanting to apply for currently accept this grade.

- We advise learners to conduct their own research, initially with universities, to ensure that their qualifications are accepted by universities. We accept no liability for this.
- Due to the total of guided learning hours for this qualification, this course is only eligible for those who have finished post-compulsory education.

If it’s your first-full Level 3 and you’re aged 19-23, you may be entitled to fee-remission.

To support you during your time at College, you can apply for bursary support (including childcare fee support), which offers a contribution towards the costs of studying. Although funding is limited and allocated on a first come first served basis, we would encourage learners to apply.
