You will learn to manage various canine emergencies. Key topics include: ? The objectives of first aid and how to manage canine behaviour in emergency situations. ? Conducting a DR ABC (primary survey), including how to take a dog’s temperature, pulse, and respiration rate. ? Examining an injured animal and taking action to manage shock. ? Practical skills: applying bandages and conducting CPR on a mannequin. ? Identifying different types of wounds and fractures and applying appropriate first aid. ? Managing and treating choking, stings, poisoning, hyperthermia, hypothermia, water inhalation, convulsions, gastric torsion, burns, and electrocution. ? Assembling a canine emergency first aid kit and communicating effectively during emergencies.
You will benefit from face-to-face teaching that contains a large amount of practical, hands-on learning alongside theoretical delivery. You will have the opportunity to practice your skills using models, mannequins, and live dogs wherever possible to build real-world confidence.
You must be a minimum of 16 years of age.You must be capable of working at a Level 3 standard.

This is an excellent complementary qualification that will support progression into further Level 3 Animal Management qualifications or specialised courses like Dog Grooming.

Part-time (One-day course consisting of 6 hours of face-to-face teaching).Casual clothing is highly recommended due to the physical nature of the practical first aid application.Please note that it is recommended (and often mandatory for professionals) to update your Canine First Aid qualification every 3 years.
