Level 3 Sports Coaching
When Madison Clark transitioned from sixth form to the Level 3 Sports Coaching course, she made a decisive move toward her dream of becoming a professional golfer.
With more flexibility, she’s been able to focus on training while gaining valuable industry experience.
What inspired your move from sixth form to this course?
“I made the transition from sixth form to this course because the subjects I was studying didn’t align with my future goals. The sports course here is only three days a week, which allows me more time to train for golf.
I found it hard to balance work and training, so I needed to change. Since I want a career in sport, studying one subject made more sense than juggling three, like biology, health and social care and physical education.”
Madison“In sixth form, it was the same teachers from secondary school around, and it felt like the same dynamic. But here, there’s more respect and more freedom to be independent.”
Why did you choose the coaching pathway?
“I chose coaching because I have a goal to go to America on a golf scholarship. If I don’t make it pro, I want to work in the industry – either coaching or with a golf brand like Ping or TaylorMade. This course gives me a great insight into the industry, helping me build a foundation for that career.”
Compared to sixth form, how is college?
“A lot better, to be honest. The environment here is different, and the people treat you more like an adult. In sixth form, it was the same teachers from secondary school around, and it felt like the same dynamic. But here, there’s more respect and more freedom to be independent.”
Has the course helped you develop any key skills?
“Definitely – it pushes me out of my comfort zone. We do speeches and presentations, which help with public speaking. That’s a great skill to have, especially in coaching and networking with the job pathway that I want to go down.”
How has the college supported you so far?
“Liz, our tutor, has been amazing. She’s put on extra catch-up sessions and even stays behind after class to help us. It shows she cares about our success and is willing to sacrifice her own time to ensure we stay on track. Having that extra support is really reassuring.”
Madison“I’ve had an offer from Iowa and Tennessee but waiting to see if any other options come in.”
What part of the course have you enjoyed the most?
“The application – going into the gym and doing practicals. It’s one thing to learn in a classroom, but applying it by giving coaching tips in real scenarios gives you a whole new perspective. It’s a big confidence boost knowing I’ve got practical experience.”
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“Hopefully in America on a university scholarship. I’ve had an offer from Iowa and Tennessee but waiting to see if any other options come in.
I want to compete while studying something like sport business to cover all areas – leadership, theory, and real-world skills. It’s a big step, but it’ll be worth it.”
