Our SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Project Based Programme is a 12 week programme that is designed to support 16-19 year olds with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
The programme is for 16-18 year olds who are:
· At risk of or are currently NEET (not in education, employment or training)
· Previously home educated (6+ months)
· In need of structured support to access further education, employment or training.
The aim is to build confidence, emotional resilience and employability skills through a project based curriculum, enabling a smooth transition into college or supported internships and apprenticeships after 12 weeks on the programme.
Outdoor activities building group and teamwork skills and embedding problem solving and resilience.
Developing Emotional Intelligence through active participation in social action projects and community participation.
Personal Development including employability skills and health and wellbeing.
Maths and English embedded into the course as well as the Stepping Stones programme.
The Dearne Valley College campus offers a wide range of learning environments and facilities. As part of the Project Based Learning department you will be able to access outdoor workspaces such as the woodland areas surrounding the campus.
We have good links with curriculum areas enabling us to use their facilities to complete projects and activities for example in animal care or with the onsite sports centre.
No formal entry requirements just a willingness to learn and progress into a curriculum area of choice.
Anyone wanting to study this programme needs to apply to a curriculum area first. They will attend an interview in curriculum and will be referred to Project Based Learning if applicable.
This course is a preparatory course for progression onto a qualification in a curriculum area of the student’s choice.
This is a fully funded course for 16-18 year old students.
