Aspiring Architect Designs NFPC Extension
Entirely on his own initiative, T Level Design, Planning, and Surveying student Dylan Preece produced an architectural design proposal for the National Fluid Power Centre.
Drawing on careful research, he developed a concept expanding its facilities, using his newly acquired architectural design skills to deliver a practical, modern design.
Located opposite North Notts College, NFPC is the UK’s leading training facility for hydraulics, pneumatics, and control systems, offering specialised qualifications. Featuring advanced technology and partnerships with major engineering companies, the Centre links technical training directly to real-world applications.
Despite only recently starting with architectural design software five weeks ago, Dylan produced a professional report in Autodesk REVIT. Featuring a concrete frame with a glass façade, the design demonstrates both strong technical skill and creative flair. Detailed mockups bring the concept to life, using parametric modelling and 3D visualisation to convey accurate dimensions, spatial relationships, and real-world constructability.

Designed for those interested in shaping the built environment, the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction provides a blend of classroom learning and real-world experience. Students develop practical skills in areas such as computer-aided design (CAD), surveying, sustainability, and construction management.
Speaking about his project, Dylan said:
“Creating this project has pushed me to apply everything I’ve learned in a real-world context. Producing detailed mockups and a full REVIT report has strengthened my technical and design skills. Seeing my concept translated into a realistic, practical vision has been incredibly rewarding.”
