Guests were welcomed into the bistro upon arrival, where they were offered drinks and canapés, providing a great opportunity for networking. A presentation was led by Jason Austin, CEO of RNN Group, and Mel Smith, Director of North Notts College, who highlighted the long-term benefits these new facilities will bring to students and the wider community. Concluding the presentation, Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Richard Bond officially cut the ribbon using a sustainable digital ribbon, marking the official opening.
Speaking about the developments, Mel Smith commented,
“It is a really exciting time at North Notts College for our learners, and I am proud to be able to welcome our community to see what has been achieved across these five areas. Many learners across the North Notts area will be able to benefit from these new facilities.”
She added,
“The Group is going from strength to strength with our education offer. I am delighted to be hosting this event and showcasing these incredible new facilities, which will benefit many learners both now and in the future.”
Looking at the situation from a whole, Jason Austin, CEO of RNN Group, added,

Students studying at RNN Group colleges will be able to benefit from new, state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities.”
Following the ceremony, guests were guided through the brand-new facilities and took part in engaging taster sessions with students, showcasing the hands-on learning opportunities now available.
Inside the cutting-edge Computing and Digital block, students took the spotlight, demonstrating their expertise in Python coding and 3D model creation. Equipped with the latest technology, this advanced facility is designed to help students develop essential skills for careers in software development, cyber security, and animation. Attendees watched as students built interactive programmes and crafted intricate 3D models using specialist software, showcasing the high-tech training now available.
In the newly designed mock hospital ward, Health and Social Care students put their knowledge into action by offering complimentary health checks. Complete with industry-standard hospital beds, diagnostic tools, and medical training mannequins, the facility allows students to practise real-world healthcare scenarios. Guests gained a first-hand look at practical training as students carried out basic health assessments and explained key medical techniques used in professional patient care.
Next, Early Years and Education students welcomed visitors into the college’s childcare training room, a realistic nursery environment filled with play and learning resources. Attendees observed how students engage young children in sensory activities, creative play, and storytelling—vital techniques in early childhood education. Designed to build confidence in working with children, the space prepares students for future careers in education and childcare.
In the expansive Carpentry and Joinery workshop, students demonstrated their craftsmanship in a 20-metre-long space designed to industry standards. Using full-sized joinery benches and a comprehensive range of professional tools, including chisels, mallets, marking gauges, and saws, they showcased their precision woodwork techniques. Renowned apprentice Matt Lee shared his experience, explaining how the new facilities are shaping the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
Bringing the tour to a relaxing close, guests stepped into the newly refurbished salon and spa training facility, where Hair and Beauty students hosted taster sessions. Visitors indulged in Indian head massages and mini beauty treatments, experiencing the same high-quality services that students refine during their training. Designed to mirror a professional salon, the space is equipped with industry-standard styling stations, treatment beds, and high-end beauty products, ensuring learners are ready for careers in hairdressing and beauty therapy.
