Waxing for a Cause: £126 Raised for In Sam’s Name
Together for Mental Health Awareness Week, 27 students and staff braved a charity leg wax, raising an impressive £126 to support In Sam’s Name.
Expertly guided by beauty students, the event encouraged open conversations while shining a light on this vital local cause.
Watch brave moments and laughter unfold in the video below:
Formed in October 2021 after the tragic loss of Sam “Sponge” Fisher, In Sam’s Name offers a safe space for men 18+ to openly discuss mental health.
Motivated by a wish to prevent other families from experiencing similar heartbreak, Sam’s friend Richard McHugh founded the charity.
More recently, its services expanded to offer support groups for women, reflecting growing demand in tackling mental health stigma across Nottinghamshire.
Adding a deeply personal touch to the event, both parents of Sam “Sponge” Fisher shared their inspiring story, offering heartfelt encouragement throughout the day.
Meeting students who had been taught by Sam at Prospect Primary School was especially meaningful to them.
In a touching moment, they met a former student who had both legs waxed for the cause, sharing a conversation and taking photos.
