North Notts College Rolls Back Time for Stirring VE Day Anniversary
A palpable air of nostalgia and celebration swept through North Notts College today as staff and students marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
The campus became a vibrant tapestry of 1940s Britain, with a particular focus on the iconic hairstyles and sartorial elegance of the era, thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of the Hair and Beauty department, Protective Services, and the FLEX (Flexible Learning and Engagement) team.
The Hair and Beauty studios buzzed with activity as students practiced the timeless art of 1940s hairstyling. Victory rolls, those elegant and symbolic upward sweeps of hair, took centre stage, allowing the students to showcase their versatile skills, under the expert guidance of their tutors.
The dedication and focus of the students’ commitment to honouring the spirit of the day on full display.
Adding to the celebrations, staff members from across the College embraced the celebratory mood by donning authentic 1940s attire. The Hair and Beauty department led the charge, showcasing their handiwork with perfectly coiffed hairstyles and elegant dresses.
Colleagues from Protective Services also joined in the spirit, with some sporting military uniform, recognising the brave men and women who served during the Second World War.
The celebrations served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and the joy felt upon the end of the war in Europe.
Beyond the visual spectacle, students and staff alike engaged in conversations about the significance of VE Day, reflecting on the resilience and unity of the British men and women during such a pivotal moment in history.
It’s been a day of learning, remembrance, and celebration, demonstrating North Notts College’s commitment to acknowledging and honouring significant historical milestones. The echoes of victory rolls and the sight of period attire will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on all who were part of this special 80th anniversary commemoration.
