Public Services Students Excel in Drill Parade Assessment

10 March 2025

After weeks of intense training, Protective Services students demonstrated their drill movements and techniques in a formal drill parade on 28 February 2025. Held before senior executives, staff, family, and friends, the event marked their successful completion of Unit Five: Uniformed Services Hierarchy and Routine.

Over seven weeks, Level 3 Year 2 students honed their drill movements, preparing to demonstrate a range of techniques required in uniformed services. Their performance included static and marching drills, such as turning, saluting, about-turns, marking time, and changing step.

Following the parade, three students were recognised for their outstanding individual performances. Millie Childe received the ‘Best Turned Out’ award, Olli Tindall was named ‘Most Improved at Drill’ and Zak Lewis was awarded ‘Best at Drill’.

Former Flight Lieutenant, Thomas Betts, who is now a Protective Services Lecturer at North Notts College, commented:

“Drill is a fundamental skill in the military and public services. Our students have spent weeks refining their movements in preparation for this final assessment, developing the discipline and coordination essential for their future careers. By mastering these skills early, they gain a significant advantage when progressing into uniformed services.”

Showcasing more than just technical skills, the drill parade emphasised personal growth of students. Through training, they develop key traits such as confidence, responsibility, and attention to detail, which are all qualities essential for success in protective service careers.
