North Notts College students with their fantasy creatures

Students’ Fantasy Creatures

20 February 2018

On Tuesday 13th March, students from North Notts College who study at the Retford Post 16 Centre took part in an inter-college competition against West Notts College.

The competition is a great opportunity for students from both colleges to get together to practice their skills and gain inspiration in a competition environment with rules and a deadline.

All of the students were all given three hours to complete their final look, the brief was to create a fantasy creature using body paint on at least fifty percent of the body with hair and make-up.

The competition was fierce with a variety of different creatures created, from unicorns to Cheshire cats and sea monsters.

Staff members, Vanessa Perry, Anne Derbyshire and Karen Connole were college judges and Kerry Ellis, an industry guest who owns her own company, was the guest judge for the competition.

There was a third, second and first prize for both the Level 2 and Level 3 students who competed. From the Level 2 competition, Daniella Foley from North Notts College won 1st prize and students from West Notts College won 2nd and 3rd prize. For the Level 3 competition, a West Notts College student won 1st and North Notts College students, Sasha Heath and Abbie Coombes won 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The students from North Notts College who placed in the top three will be going on to compete in the RNN Group’s annual inter-college challenge with Grimsby Institute in March.

Student, Sasha Heath, said “You learn lots of skills from other people and it’s a great opportunity to get yourself out there so people can see your work.”
