The challenge requires participants to cover approximately 24 miles and summit the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales within 12 hours:

  • Pen-y-ghent – 694m
  • Whernside – 736m (Yorkshire’s highest peak)
  • Ingleborough – 723m

The team travelled to YHA Hawes on Monday 8th June to prepare for the challenge before an early 4:30am wake-up call on Tuesday. After breakfast, they headed to the start point and set off at 7:20am, ready to take on the demanding route.

Throughout the day, the group faced challenging conditions, including rain, hailstones and strong winds. Despite the weather and the physical demands of the hike, the team showed incredible determination and supported one another every step of the way.

Their efforts paid off as they crossed the finish line in an official time of 11 hours and 55 minutes, completing the challenge with just five minutes to spare.

A special thank you goes to Jo, who organised the event and supported the team throughout the day. Acting as the safety vehicle driver, she met the group at each rendezvous point, checking on their welfare, replenishing supplies, providing food and drinks, and offering encouragement when it was needed most. Her organisation and support played a vital role in the success of the challenge, and we couldn’t have done it without her.

As a college, we are immensely proud of every student and member of staff who took part. Their resilience, commitment and teamwork throughout the challenge truly reflected the values of our college community.
