What is distance learning?

Distance learning allows you to do just that – study at a distance, wherever you want, whenever you want – you don’t have to be based local to us or travel to any of our campuses, you simply plug in and progress with your chosen course with support from our Distance Learning team.

Study in the comfort of your own home and flexibly around your existing commitments, at a pace that suits you.

With a variety of subject areas for you to choose from including health and social care, mental health, education and training, nutrition and health and business management, we can help you gain the skills that matter the most to you.

Whether you’re looking to update or upskill for an existing job, or take a first step towards a new career, these courses can help you, whatever your needs.

What are the benefits of distance learning?

Our distance learning courses are:

FREE – As long as you meet our eligibility criteria, our distance learning courses are free to access
FLEXIBLE – With no classes or exams you can fit your study around your lifestyle
FAST – Because you’re not constrained by class schedules you can complete these courses as quickly as suits you. All courses must be completed within 2 – 4 months depending on the modules.
TRUSTED – Our distance learning courses are accredited by NCFE, one of the UK’s leading awarding organisations.

Distance Learning Courses

Courses

Our distance learning courses are made up of between two and four modules. The number of modules is indicated in brackets next to the course title.

We set time-limits on the length of time you have to complete our courses:

2 modules – 9 weeks
3 modules – 13 weeks
4 modules – 17 weeks

Health and Social Care

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Falls Prevention Awareness (2)
    This course will outline falls in context, the risk factors and causes of falls and how to assess, prevent and manage falls.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Behaviour that Challenges (2)
    Completing this course will teach you how to understand challenging behaviour, the importance of effective communication, reflection and support in managing behaviour that challenges and how to support positive behaviour.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care (2)
    This course will outline safeguarding, dignity and understanding the duty of care in the context of adult social care. You will also understand dilemmas and public concerns related to adult health and social care.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes (2)
    Completion of this course will aid your understanding of diabetes and how to prevent, intervene and provide initial care, treatment and manage the condition.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care (3)
    Gain an awareness of dementia and the person-centred approach to providing care and support including inclusion, medication, understanding behaviour and the benefits of engaging in activities in social care.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities (2)
    Ideal for anyone who works with individuals with learning disabilities this course will offer an introduction to personalisation in social care and help you understand the principles of positive risk-taking, awareness of autism spectrum conditions and the principles of supporting an individual with a learning disability.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care (3)
    Completing this course will equip you with an understanding of how to work in end of life care. You will understand how to plan care, provide support and manage pain and discomfort as well as understand loss and grief and the role of the care worker in time of death.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in the Health Care Setting (2)
    Understand how to prevent and control the spread of infections with this course. You will gain an understanding of the principles of spread of infection, the importance of personal hygiene, decontamination, cleaning and waste management in a healthcare setting.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism (3)
    This course will introduce autism and help you develop a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism. You’ll learn communication and social interactions and how to support positive behaviour and how individuals with autism can live healthy and fulfilled lives.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions (3)
    Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions including; arthritis, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s and sensory loss.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care (2)
    Learn key skills for the safe handling of medication including understanding medication and prescriptions, record keeping and auditing, supply, storage and disposal of medication and the requirements for the safe administration of medication.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity (2)
    Understand the importance of equality and diversity as a principle and how it applies to the community and in the workplace with this free distance learning course.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Care Planning (2)
    This course will help you understand person-centred thinking and planning, you will understand nutrition and hydration, maintaining personal hygiene and continence care as well as the principles of supporting sleep.

Education and Childcare

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent (2)
    Completing this course will introduce and aid understanding of the Prevent Duty, safeguarding and how to stay safe online.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs (2)
    This course will introduce mental health and mental health issues and the tole of the mental health worker. It will help you understand approaches to care and management in mental health, the duty of care in adult and social care and change and support in relation to mental health.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities (2)

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Awareness of Mental Health Problems (4)
    This course will aid your understanding of a wide range of mental health conditions including stress, anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, postnatal depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and more.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health (2)
    This course will help you to understand mental health in the context of children and young people. You will understand the factors that may affect mental health and the impact of young people’s mental health concerns. You will also learn how to support children and young people with mental health concerns.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs (2)
    This course will introduce mental health and mental health issues and the tole of the mental health worker. It will help you understand approaches to care and management in mental health, the duty of care in adult and social care and change and support in relation to mental health.

Customer Service

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Customer Service (2)
    This course will help you understand customers, employer organisations, how to communicate with customers and develop customer relationships. It will also teach you how to resolve problems and how to develop relationships with your colleagues.

Business and Management

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Lean Organisation Management Techniques (2)
    This course will introduce learn organisation techniques in business as well as business improvement tools and techniques and working in business teams.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading (3)
    As well as introducing the principles of team leading this course will help you understand business, communication and customers and how to deliver customer service, resolve problems and develop relationships. It will introduce health and safety procedures and coaching in the workplace.

Nutrition and Health

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Nutrition and Health (3)
    This three-module course will help you understand healthy eating, the nutritional needs of different individuals, how to use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet as well as principles of weight managements. The course also aids understanding of eating disorders and the principles of food safety in the home.

Transferable Skills

  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Information, Advice and Guidance (2)
    Learn how to develop interaction skills, work with groups and manage information as well as how to effective signpost and refer information, advice and guidance.
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity (2)
    Understand the importance of equality and diversity as a principle and how it applies to the community and in the workplace with this free distance learning course.

If you do not complete your course you will be charged a fee of £120 to cover the cost of enrolment and learning materials.

Eligibility

To be eligible to undertake our free distance learning courses you must meet the below criteria:

  • Living in the UK and aged 19+
  • If you are aged 19-23 you must hold a full Level 2 qualification and not currently enrolled on an apprenticeship
  • Aged 24 or above – free to everyone
