North Notts College learners commemorate Armistice Day with poppy art display
Learners studying Public Services and Sport at North Notts College have shown their respect and commemorated Armistice Day by creating two impactful pieces of art that are proudly on display in the College. Each piece has been created using hundreds of hand-cut paper poppies.
The wall art and poster have been crafted by a team of dedicated learners who have drawn, coloured and cut the poppies used within each piece of art. A second display, a giant poster, has been installed above the main reception of the College.
North Notts College Level 2 Sport student Antonio Romeo is one of the learners who has been involved in the creation of the Armistice inspired artwork.
Antonio explained: “The project has been worked on by people from both Sport and Public Services, bringing together a team from both courses.”
North Notts College Sport and Public Services Lecturer Mark Dawson coordinated the learners and was responsible for scaling the reception roof to install the large poster in the reception area.
Mark said: “The learners really came together and spent a long time creating both the poster and the wall art. It’s all been done as part of our Armistice Day commemorations, and later this morning the students will be holding a remembrance event.
“We’ll be displaying both the poster and the wall mural until the end of November.”
Level 3 Public Services student Kia Porson was involved in creating the waterfall inspired wall art.
She explained: “It’s the first time we’ve done something like this. A lot of us worked on it, and it took us quite a long time to put together, it’s completely handmade; we had to make and cut out the poppies, colour them in and then add them to the wall.”
Sport Level 2 learner, Oliver Bowering, was also part of the student team who created the impactful artwork.
Oliver said: “We’ve created a poppy display to resemble a waterfall in memory of our fallen soldiers who gave their lives. We’ve kept in mind the reason we’re doing it when trying to make something that creates an impact.”
