It's Not Too Late

Blog: It’s Not Too Late – Choose your Future at North Notts College

7 September 2020

Deciding what you’re going to do at the end of Year 11 is tough at the best of times. Advice from friends and parents, whilst well-meaning, can be misplaced. Throw in the confusion and uncertainty caused by a global pandemic and exam results based on teacher predictions and it’s easy to have made a choice that you’re already questioning.

It’s common that many students who are unsure of what to do find themselves being pushed towards their school sixth form. The familiarity of surroundings and friends can be tempting, and A-Levels can feel like an easy choice. But are A-Levels right for you?

If you’re not sure you made the right choice don’t worry, it’s not too late to change your mind.

If the idea of hands-on learning led by industry-experienced tutors and gaining your own valuable industry experience could help you flourish, a course at North Notts College could be just what you’re looking for.

A change of plans can be daunting, but for former North Notts College student Nicola White deciding that sixth form wasn’t right for her after just one week and joining us to study Level 3 Business was the catalyst to a successful career.

Nicola said: “College allowed me to move into a more mature student environment and gave me the opportunity to be more independent. I made great new friends and had the opportunity to interact with a different circle of people from different areas. These communication skills are really vital in the job that I do now.

“Studying Business was a bit of a last-minute decision but at the time I knew I wanted to work in a corporate environment and work in digital marketing. The business course gave me the opportunity to get my foot in the door and I was able to climb up the ranks with different employers until I was managing a team of 15 people.”

After nearly a decade of working in an office environment, Nicola decided she wanted to follow her passion for fitness and nutrition and set up her own business, NicoFit.

Nicola explains: “Fortunately all the skills I had learnt prior to deciding to go down the route of fitness and nutrition have helped massively with what I’m doing now. Business can be applied to so many fields of work so my qualification and previous work experience has been really beneficial in creating my own company.

“I would recommend North Notts College to others. It’s great to get out of the school environment and learn from tutors that are very patient and knowledgeable. You also have access to great resources.”
