Business – Daniel
Daniel has made great progress throughout his college years, beginning in FLEX and advancing to Level 3 Business. We caught up with him to discuss the inspiration behind his journey.
When did your passion for business begin?
“My passion for business began all the way back in 2019, which may sound strange as my first course was hair and beauty. The main reason I chose business was because I wanted to understand the aspects of what it took to run a business, as my dream is to run my own cosmetics company.
Many people may be wondering why I left hair and beauty as a career. To put it simply, I enjoyed the theoretical side of things much more than the practical side. This is yet another reason why I decided to choose business as my predominant course.”
How has the RNN Group supported you through your course?
“The RNN Group has supported me through my course by providing me with an LSA (learning support assistant) to help me stay on track with my learning, as I get distracted very easily, and assist me with my course. Over the past three years, I have been studying maths and English and now managed to pass both. North Notts College allows you to retake your maths and English alongside your course, which I have found extremely beneficial and am grateful for.”
What placements have you been involved in?
“As of recently, I have been involved with a placement at North Notts College in the marketing department. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and it has opened my eyes as to how much marketing plays not only into a business but also how many elements factor into marketing in general.”

“This college has a much more mature environment compared to secondary school.”
What advice would you give to someone considering this career?
“My advice to anyone who wants to start a business course is that there are five main factors you have to consider. These being: devotion, organisation, resilience, authenticity, and a passion. Each of these factors has helped me advance to where I am today. You should also have fun while on your course, as I believe fun makes everything better.”
What advice would you give to students considering joining the college?
“Don’t be anxious. As I’ve come to realise after being here for 3–4 years, everyone is in the same position as you. When I first joined, I was also anxious. It’s a new environment, a change, and as human beings, we’re hesitant to adapt to new experiences as it’s considered unknown territory for us. Another thing I would encourage is individuality and expressing yourself. This college has a much more mature environment compared to secondary school.”
How have you evolved as an individual since you began college?
“I wholeheartedly believe that North Notts College impacted my mental health in a positive way, as it allowed me to be myself, believe in myself, and not worry about people’s opinions of me. I think that’s the main focal point of how my experience has changed; my mental health has gotten better, and I’m more positive about experiences in my life.”
