Are You Thinking About the Future? Continue Your Education in Retford with North Notts College

1 June 2020

As schools and colleges tentatively prepare to reopen their doors to a select group of students, North Notts College is reminding learners in Retford and the surrounding areas that a range of its courses are available at the Retford Post-16 Centre.

If you’re currently in Year 11, 12 or 13 at school or college, you find yourself in the unenviable position of having big decisions to make about your future. What should you do in September? Is moving to College right for you? Should you continue with A-Levels? Is moving to University the right move for you?

This isn’t the easiest decision to make at the best of times, and one made more difficult by the current uncertainty caused by Coronavirus.

North Notts College courses available at the Retford Post-16 Centre include Art and Design, Media Make-up and Sport Science with Level 2 and 3 and degree-level courses available. Students at Retford Post-16 Centre are taught by industry-experienced tutors in specialist facilities including Hair and Beauty salons, multi-discipline Art and Graphic Design studios and a wide range of Sport and fitness facilities.

The College has also recently invested heavily in a suite of Google for Education digital teaching and learning tools to ensure students can access learning remotely at a time and in a place to suit them.

Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design student Rebecca Blount previously studied A-Levels and at other colleges.

Rebecca said: “We’ve got so much access to equipment that schools and sixth forms don’t necessarily have, there are a lot more materials that we get to experiment with; coming to College in Retford has just been the best experience for me.”

North Notts College Senior Curriculum Team Leader for the Retford Post-16 Centre Karen Connole is responsible for the day-to-day running of the courses.

Karen said: “I think the most unique thing about studying North Notts College courses at the Retford Post-16 Centre is the togetherness of all of the students. Because we run a limited curriculum and have a relatively small number of students the interaction between them isn’t just limited to people in the same classes and same courses. The students really do mix, it’s not uncommon to stumble across a game of volleyball in the sports hall that has students from all three curriculum areas.

“Another lovely thing at Retford is the collaboration and teamwork between students. We’ve had examples of students setting up mentoring groups for students in younger age groups.

“It’s a real pleasure to work at the Retford Post-16 Centre because of the atmosphere that our students create.”
