Access to Health Science Professions students raising money for charity

The season of goodwill at RNN Group

19 December 2023

Christmas is a time for giving, and our students and staff here at RNN Group of Colleges have been giving back to the community this festive season in a range of ways.

From abandoned animals to poorly children, RNN students have chosen to support a vast range of good causes.

Engineering students support Rotherham’s tiniest residents.

A group of engineering students from Rotherham College put their best feet forward to raise £237.27 for Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Tiny Toes Appeal.

They had a tombola stall in the hospital’s foyer on Thursday 7th December where they got the chance to interact with the public and take cash and card payments.

All monies raised will go towards refurbishment of the hospital’s neonatal unit that care for premature babies and their parents.

Access to Health Science Professions students support sustainability for their festive fundraising

Some of our level 2 Access to Health Science Professions students from Rotherham College came up with a novel idea to raise money and recycle at the same time.

They organised a preloved clothing and gift stall in the Wentworth Building where people could buy a bag for £1 and fill it with items. They also held a raffle and tombola.

All monies raised were split between two causes: Rotherham Cancer Care Centre that provides free therapies and counselling for cancer patients and their families; and The Congenital Heart Unit at Leeds Children’s Hospital that treats patients from across Yorkshire.

FLEX students fill gift boxes for underprivileged children in Eastwood

SENDS students from Rotherham College’s FLEX departments packed, wrapped and delivered 20 Christmas boxes for children living in Eastwood.

Our students filled each box with goodies for children aged 0 to 13 such as colouring books, small toys, craft sets, toiletries and chocolates.

Working with the charity, Clifton Learning Partnership, the gift boxes were handed over to the children’s families at a Christmas party at Eastwood Village Community Centre on Wednesday 6th December.

North Notts College chooses trio of charities for Christmas 2023

This year, the team at North Notts College in Worksop chose three special charities to collect donations for.

The first was Worksop-based charity, Hope Community Services. They run an emergency hostel as well as temporary ‘move on’ homes for people affected by homelessness. Donations included toiletries, underwear, and cleaning products.

The second was Thornberry Animal Sanctuary at Dinnington. They look after a range of animals from cats, dogs and other domestic pets to horses and farm animals. Donations included toys and treats for the animals, plus other items to donate to their charity shop such as bric-a-brac, books, clothing and toys.

The final charity chosen by North Notts College was Bassetlaw Food Bank. Last year, the charity supported 2,304 households in the Bassetlaw district. Donations included tinned meats, toilet rolls, laundry detergent, shampoo and deodorant.

Leading up to Christmas, Rotherham College’s hair and beauty academy, Inspire Salon, was an official drop-off point for the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal.

Kind-hearted students, staff and members of the public donated new and unwrapped gifts and toys for children of all ages from babies to teenagers. These will now be distributed by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids team to children living in poverty that would otherwise wake up to no gifts on Christmas morning.
