Corrine Parkes was nominated for the Outstanding Achievement award for the Summer Term by her tutor Monica Briggs and is pictured receiving her certificate and gift vouchers from Gill Saville, Deputy Principal.
Corrine is determined to pursue a career in social work, although shortly after returning for her second year studies on the OCR Health and Social care course she became pregnant and worried about being able to complete the course once the baby had arrived.

The day started at 10.00 am on the morning of 5th May 2010. It was quite a chilly morning when we began our journey to Castleton. We arrived at Castleton at around 11.30am where we had our lunch. After lunch we visited the Blue John mines where we went on a boat trip inside the cave. We were given a guided tour and told facts of conditions workers had to put up with. We had an hour free time to explore Castleton. After this we visited another cave called ‘Devils Arse’ – we thought this was a funny name for a cave! Once we had visited both caves we went on the coach to drive to Edale, where we were staying overight.

Our tutor, Julie Dias, mentioned to our tutorial group about the opportunity of going on a residential, At first we said we didn’t want to go and then we felt so bad and didn’t want to let her down so agreed to go.
The day of the residential came and me and my mate Gevain came into college with our hundreds of bags (well it felt like it!) and waited in anticipation for the coach to come.
